This week Stor-Age announced that it had recently commenced with the development of a new self storage facility in the Johannesburg CBD.

The brownfield development takes the form of a conversion of an existing six storey 11 000m² building. The property enjoys exceptional exposure onto the high traffic M2 highway for commuters travelling both east and west into and out of the city centre. On completion, the modern state-of-the-art self storage facility will offer 8 000m² of self storage space over six floors and will comprise upwards of 650 self storage units ranging in size from 3 to 30m².

Stor-Age CEO Gavin Lucas commented, "This represents the first of five new Stor-Age properties which will come on line in Gauteng this year. The exceptional growth in the portfolio is the direct result of the strong trading performance of existing stores and a significant amount of ground work completed by our property team in 2010. Our Johannesburg city centre store is being developed after an in-depth due diligence study was undertaken which analysed key property market fundamentals. We’ve noted that there are self storage facilities trading in the catchment area already, however all are of a low standard and provide a poor quality service offering."

Construction of the property is being completed by the Madison Construction Group, with the internal self storage system fit out being undertaken by Steel Self Storage Systems (‘4S4’). The store will include all of Stor-Age's key development attributes, resulting in it being the highest quality self storage facility in the Johannesburg city centre and surrounds.
